How to share a specific part of a YouTube video

Written by ABDULLAH ALOTAISH

Have you ever wanted to share a specific part of a YouTube video? There are several ways to set up a link to a specific part of a YouTube video. In this tutorial, we share some methods, including using a third-party service.

1. Copy the video link

You can use the built-in YouTube features to share a specific part of any YouTube video. Simply pause the video at the moment you want to share, then Ctrl+click or right-click anywhere on the video, and select “Copy video URL at this time”.

The URL containing this exact timestamp will now be copied to your clipboard, ready to be shared. Anyone who clicks on the link will be immediately taken to that specific part of the YouTube video.

2. Add timestamp while sharing a video

If you are struggling to pause at the right moment, you can type in the exact timestamp you want to share. To use this method, follow the steps below:

Click the Share button below the video.

In the next pop-up window, select the “Get Started In” checkbox.

By default, YouTube suggests when the video is currently paused. However, you can type at any time in the accompanying text field.

Then, you can share that YouTube video as usual. For example, you can share it on WhatsApp, Facebook or Twitter. Alternatively, you can copy and paste the generated URL to anywhere you choose, such as Instagram messages, stories, etc.

3. Use YouTube clips

YouTube offers another native feature called Clips for sharing a specific part of a video. You’ll find the Clip button under all supported videos. Click or tap the button to create a 5-60-second clip of the original video. The cut video can then be shared with others and will be played in a loop from the original video page only. Please note that clips do not create a new video.

To extract a portion of a YouTube video by creating its clip, follow these steps:

Start by watching the desired video.

Click or tap on the “Clip” icon at the bottom of the video.

The Create Clip screen will appear. Type a description for the clip.

Enter the start and end times for the clip or use the slider to select the portion of the clip you want to share and tap the Share Clip button.

Copy the clip link and share it with others. The cut video will play in a loop, and users will have the option to watch the entire video.
